PLANS to ban HGVs from a Bradford street will be scrapped.
Last year Bradford Council approved proposals to ban vehicles weighing over 7.5 tonnes from travelling on Spencer Road, between its junctions with Clayton Road and Brackenbeck Road.
The scheme would have cost over £9,000, and been part of the Council's casualty reduction programme.
But highways officers have now said the HGV ban is "not feasible" for this stretch of road, and suggested the plans be scrapped.
Councillors approve traffic orders on Queensbury roadsNext Thursday Bradford Council's Bradford South Area Committee will discuss a number of road safety schemes planned for the constituency over the next year. And a report going to them will advise that they drop the previously approved Spencer Road ban. It says: "Following initial investigations it was determined that this project would not be feasible. As such it is recommended that this proposal be abandoned."
The Bradford South area has a budget of £110,000 to spend on road safety measures in the coming year.
Councillors will have a number of schemes recommended to them, including installing a vehicle activated sign on Priestley Hill, Queensbury at a cost of £5,000, a junction improvement on Wibsey Park Avenue/Reevy Road at a cost of £25,000 and £2,000 worth of improvements to the mini roundabout at Bierley Lane/Newhall Road.
The committee meets in City Hall at 6pm next Thursday.
