ADDINGHAM’S new community hub and library will officially open to the public on June 22.
The Grade II listed building on Main Street, has been repaired and refurbished by Addingham Parish Council using grant funding.
Chairman of the Council, Catherine Coates, said the completion of the capital project, on time and within budget, was a real achievement for the Council and invited everyone to come along on June 22 June to look round. She said: “You’ll be amazed to see how different and fresh it looks, and how much more useful it will be to us as a community. The parish council was entrusted with the care of this heritage building back in the 1970s, and I’m so glad that we have been able to preserve and improve it for the village for generations to come – and all this without major cost to local taxpayers!”
Speaking at a recent parish council meeting Cllr Coates went on to comment on the importance of maintaining local services, not just the library service, but services such as street cleaning and grass cutting, the costs of which are increasingly falling to the Parish Council as Bradford Council continues to cut back its expenditure.
She said the council continued to work hard to run all its services for the village as cost effectively as possible.
Mrs Coates summed up by thanking everyone for attending and showing their appreciation of the work of the Council. She said: “As a council, we work hard, through our newsletters and social media page, to tell the village about what we do, but we know that sometimes, and in the past, two or three people may not have understood our work properly and they’ve raised questions. Where this has resulted in other agencies, such as the external auditors and, most recently, the Information Commissioner, being involved in reviewing and confirming our work, we’ve been so pleased to have our work signed off and our decisions upheld. It’s great to be told that we’re doing things right!
“We will now be moving forward into our next term of office and I am especially looking forward to working with the fresh ideas and enthusiasm of the new team of councillors.
“We want to work together and with all residents to get things done for Addingham so we can continue making it a better place for all of us to live.”
