BRADFORD College has said it is started a consultation over the potential loss of 131 jobs.

The college, which has been in financial strife in recent years, said the losses would ensure the “future sustainability” of the college and make “significant financial savings”.

Earlier this week, Bradford South MP Judith Cummins called on the Government to invest more in further education.

She said: “It is shameful that a reduction in further education funding means that the College are having to consider cutting 131 staff.

“Giving students a quality education is essential in giving young people the job opportunities and life chances they deserve.

A Bradford College spokesperson said: “We can confirm that we have opened a consultation process about proposed job losses in order to make significant financial savings and ensure the future sustainability of the College.

“We plan to work in consultation with our recognised trade unions, UCU and Unison, and will do all we can to avoid compulsory redundancies.”

This further cut follows proposals put forward in March to cut 12 senior job roles to save money by the end of the school year.
