A HUGE fire on Ilkley Moor which began this afternoon is raging on into the evening, sending shockwaves across the county.
Firefighters were called to the White Wells area at around 3.11pm and are still working to bring the blaze under control.
These pictures capture the devastation wrought by the fire at the iconic Yorkshire beauty spot.
Ilkley resident David Shepherdson told the T&A: "The smoke clouds were drifting from the moor over the town at about 8.30-9pm before it got too dark to see.
"The smell of burning is present up and down the valley and the devastation we expect to see in daylight is going to be dreadful.
"The loss of moorland habitat is heartbreaking, but hopefully it will recover.
"As I look out my window up to the moor at 10pm the flames are still high and now reach up the sides of Rocky Valley. This fire seems to be the worst of the fires that have struck our beautiful Ilkley Moor in recent years."
Our beautiful moor continues to burn. Thoughts with our #EmergencyServices colleagues working in dreadful conditions throughout the night & with residents nearby #IlkleyMoor
