A CRASH in the early hours is causing major delays on a major route into Bradford this morning.
Officers have been on the scene since the early hours, and the M606 is closed northbound from Junction 2 for the Euroway Trading Estate.
Mayo Avenue is also closed between Manchester Road and the Staithgate roundabout, heading towards the M606.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said officers were called to the scene at 1.56am.
She said: "Police were called at 1.56am to Chase Way, where one vehicle had collided with street furniture.
"The driver has been left with serious injuries.
"It has caused significant rush hour delays as traffic lights were broken during the incident."
A black convertible BMW was involved in the smash.
A spokesperson from Cleckheaton fire station said the driver had been impaled by a piece of wood.
He said: "Crews cut him out, and then were called to Leeds General Infirmary a bit later to help with a wooden impalement from the crash."
Motorists are being urged to avoid the area and there are signficant delays to traffic in the area.
Emergency services and other services are still at the scene.
