TRADERS in Haworth have launched a petition to drum up support against what they say is over zealous parking enforcement.
As reported in February, small businesses in Mill Hey complained that wardens' strict enforcement of the double yellow lines outside their shops was driving away custom.
Dozens of people have signed copies of a petition arguing these yellow lines are not necessary at this location.
Stuart Murley, owner of Pennine Models, said the shops in Mill Hey are on the only stretch of road between Haworth and Keighley to have double yellow lines.
He pointed out there is no problem with traffic flow along the rest of the Keighley to Haworth route, where there are no double yellows.
"Our petition says restrictions should be reduced to 'limited parking only'", he said. "We began the petition about three weeks ago, and I'm waiting for a meeting of the candidates for the council elections, when I'll present it to them."
He said people can still add signatures in support of the petition at the shops along Mill Hey.
Bradford Council has previously said the parking enforcement was prompted by concerns about road safety issues caused by motorists parking on double yellows in Mill Hey.
The district council said it would listen to traders’ concerns and review the restrictions.
Haworth, Cross Roads and Stanbury Parish Council has voiced support for shop owners, noting it opposed Bradford Council’s decision more than two years ago to scrap free 30-minute parking provision in nearby Gas Street Car Park.
