Lanes one and two are now open in both directions and while Highways England has said congestion is beginning to ease, there are still delays of at least 30 minutes between junctions 22 and 23.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said a member of the public called at around 5.40pm, reporting an incident on the M62 at Junction 23 eastbound.
The spokesman said it involves a lorry which has collided with the central reservation and then gone on to the eastbound carriageway.
Pictures from the scene show the extent of the damage to the central barrier.
Another car is believed to be involved, but it's not thought anyone has been injured.
