RESIDENTS around Beacon Place in BD6 have made a spectacular transformation to land alongside some well used footpaths as part of the Great Bradford Spring Clean.
Part of the council-owned land was covered in layers of litter, which had built up over the years.
About a dozen volunteers, including local councillors, picked, raked and dug out the mess on Saturday March 23, supported by Bradford Council’s Neighbourhood Service.
A Community Payback team helped by cutting back vegetation, allowing the volunteers to get to more of the rubbish.
There’s still more work to do on the large area of land which is between Beacon Place and steps leading to Buttershaw Drive, so another effort will be organised in a few week’s time.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Healthy People and Places, said: “We all share the miserable experience of seeing litter and fly-tipping on the streets and other public places, so we are asking community-minded people to help us to try and clear them up.
“The council does not have the finances to employ a vast army of street cleaners to run round after everyone who dumps litter in our district, so we need volunteers to give us a hand.
“Many people spring clean inside the home but we are hoping they can find the time to make a difference outside as well. By working together, we can make a big difference.”
