THE WINNER of this year’s Otley Carnival Poster Competition has been announced.
Ten year old Evie Crabtree’s design, featuring dancers on the carnival field, has been chosen to grace the cover of the event’s 2019 programme.
Evie, from Ashfield Primary School, was announced as the overall winner of the competition - sponsored by Dacre Son & Hartley (Otley) - during the recent Carnival Queen selection evening.
Tim Usherwood, who runs Dacre’s Otley office, presented her with a winner’s shield, certificate and book voucher along with a T-shirt featuring Evie’s design, produced and donated by Colourfusion of Otley.
He said: “We are delighted to sponsor this year’s carnival poster competition.
“The carnival is one of the most important events in Otley’s calendar and I am sure Evie’s lovely poster will help sell a record number of programmes. Many thanks to the carnival committee, it was a lovely evening.”
The age group winners were: Aged 5: Isabel Charlton of Westgate Primary School; Aged 6: Stanley Robinson of Pool-in-Wharfedale C of E Primary; Aged 7: Martin Hall of Otley All Saints C of E Primary; Aged 8: Isabella Yip of Otley All Saints; Aged 9-10: Harriet Michael of Westgate; and Aged 11: Oliver Burgess of Askwith Primary School.
They will have their designs printed on the back of the carnival programme. Otley Carnival Chair Rhona Smith said: “We wish to thank all the children and schools for taking part.
“The standard of designs was fantastic and it was no easy task for our judge from St John Fisher Catholic High School, Harrogate.”
