STAFF from the University of Bradford will be going on strike for three days, starting tomorrow, over upcoming redundancies and staff restructuring at the university.

Members of UNISON will be striking from Wednesday until Friday, with 50 members expected to take to the picket line, and more stating they will not be attending work.

UNISON said: “Staff will be encouraged to attend the picket line in Halloween costume tomorrow to highlight the horrors of the restructure and redundancy process they are facing.”

The strike is expected to gain support from the University of Bradford Students’ Union tonight.

Earlier this year, the Telegraph & Argus revealed the University of Bradford is making 200 administrative, professional and support staff redundant by December.

A spokesperson for the University of Bradford said: "The University’s senior management has been in consultation with the unions to try to avert strike action, and remains committed to fully engaging with them.

"In the meantime we will do everything we can to minimise any impact on the student experience.

"The HE sector has become market-driven and increasingly competitive.

"In order to remain financially viable and sustainable, we, along with other institutions, will continue to innovate, evolve and reshape internally.

"Against this backdrop, we have set a clear plan for the university’s development over the next two to three years.

"We are on track to deliver this plan, and our ambition is to remain a high-quality, research-intensive university, with strongly performing specialist programmes and very high graduate employment rates.

"Student recruitment for 2018/19 is on course to meet or slightly exceed our targets.  Moreover, our applications for entry in 2019/20 are also running at about ten per cent higher than last year.  This shows that our revised strategy and development plan are all working well."
