WITH Bonfire Night fast approaching, venues across the district are gearing up for their own bonfires and firework displays.

Events are taking place all over the district, with people being urged to attend organised events rather than holding their own at home.

A full list of bonfires taking place can be seen below, which is being regularly updated.

The Bonfire period is one of the busiest times for the fire service, with bonfires getting out of control or yobs setting fire to bins and rubbish, so people are being asked to attend organised events to ease the pressure on firefighters.

Last year, West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service attended 78 deliberate fires in Bradford over three days.

Mo Ali, Bradford District Prevention Manager, said: “The run up to Bonfire Night is one of the busiest times of year for the emergency services, particularly due to the increased amount of anti-social fires.

“These incidents can be of significant risk for the public as they can often get out of control, but also as time spent at these fires can result in fire engines not being available to attend other emergencies.

“While most adults enjoy fireworks responsibly at home, in the wrong hands they can cause life threatening injuries.

“Fireworks are explosives and burn at extremely high temperatures and the last thing we want to see this bonfire season is anyone getting injured.”

The weather appears to be holding out, with the Met Office predicting a dry weekend for Bonfire Night. On Saturday you may want to stand well back from the fire, and take extra care when setting off fireworks, as winds are expected to be up, with gusts fo up to 30 miles per hour. On Sunday, winds should drop, and on Monday the wind is expected to remain calm.

Temperatures will be chilly on Saturday, feeling around three degrees, but Sunday and Monday will be much milder for the time of year, creeping into double figures.
