PEOPLE across the region have made the Cycle September challenge the most successful one to date.
The challenge was run by West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s CityConnect programme and was aimed at encouraging more people to cycle and walk.
More than 1,800 people from 176 organisations across West Yorkshire cycled nearly 270,000 miles during Cycle September.
The Combined Authority joined forces with Cycle September organisers Love to Ride for the UK-wide event aimed at getting more people to discover the benefits of cycling.
Every member of staff at Cleckheaton Fire Station took part in Cycle September.
Damian Cameron, Watch Commander at Cleckheaton Fire Station, said: “Cycling is a popular activity at the station for both commuting and socialising.
“Our firefighters find that cycling is a great way to keep fit and healthy, which is not only an important part of the job, it also benefits our staff on a personal level as well as bringing wider organisational benefits.
“Through CityConnect’s Bike Friendly Business scheme we are getting three pool bikes, which will allow more of our staff to try cycling to work or for fun before buying a bike of their own.”
