AROUND 50 people had to be evacuated from a hotel in the early hours of this morning after a fire.

Fire crews from Bradford fire station were called to the blaze, which had taken hold in a room on the fourth floor of the Travelodge Bradford Central in Valley Road.

Everyone inside the hotel, around 50 people, had to be evacuated for an hour at around 3am.

A spokesperson for Bradford fire station said: "The fire was just contained to one room and there were burns to a mattress.

"We used breathing appartus, a hose reel and fans to put out the fire.

"The cause of the fire is currently under investigation."

A spokesperson for Travelodge said: “We can confirm that the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service was called out in the early hours of yesterday morning to respond to an isolated incident, which took place in one room at Bradford Central Travelodge.

“For safety precautions, the hotel was fully evacuated. There were no casualties, and guests returned to their rooms and the hotel was fully operational within 45 minutes.

“We sincerely apologise to our customers of this inconvenience.”
