BRADFORD Council is hosting an event to examine the issues the Windrush Generation have faced.

The event, which takes place during Black History Month, is entitled Windrush, Citizenship and Your Rights.

It will be opened today by Coun Abdul Jabar, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Neighbourhoods and Community Safety, in the Hockney Room, Margaret McMillan Tower from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

The Windrush generation are the people who emigrated from Commonwealth countries to the UK between 1948 and 1971.

They were granted leave to remain in the country for as long as they wanted when they arrived, but the Home Office did not keep a record of those given permission.

Speakers will give their perspective on issues arising from the Home Office’s support for individuals to gain citizenship and other discussions, as well as a poetry reading and refreshments.

Anyone interested or affected can attend the event.
