SIR – Recent news was full of reports about how much the poor will lose when Universal Credit is fully implemented across the country.

This month we saw the wedding of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank, with the tax-payer picking up the bill for security around their horse and carriage procession, something the young lady was particularly keen to have.

LETTER: Is this any way for a councillor to speak?

Call me nostalgic, but in my day the bride’s family was usually responsible for the cost of the wedding and, given that Prince Andrew is a man of considerable means, he should have put his hand in his pocket instead of asking pensioners and low waged workers to subsidise the Royals.

I can only hope that the rough sleepers in the area were moved on in time, as I’d hate a dose of reality to spoil the day for the couple.
