A DELIVERY driver has been freed from a jail sentence after three days because the judge said he was “deeply troubled” by the case.
Anthony Bull, 62, was at the wheel of a Telegraph & Argus van when it crashed on the A65 at Hellifield in North Yorkshire causing serious injury to Diane Proctor. On Tuesday, Bull was locked up for 16 months by The Recorder of Bradford, Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC, and banned from driving for two years and eight months.
On Friday, Bull, of Hollings Court, Hollings Street, Bingley, was brought back to Bradford Crown Court and his sentence rescinded by the judge. He was released on bail to be resentenced on November 16. Bull had pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving in a Vauxhall Movano.
When he returned to the court from prison, the judge said he was “deeply troubled by a number of features of the case.”
Bull had made a gross error of judgement set against an otherwise impeccable driving record.
Judge Durham Hall ordered a full probation report to give insight and assistance into what happened.
An interim driving ban imposed by magistrates following the crash last November remained in place.
