A THREE day operation focusing on dangerous driving, illegal parking and community safety during Eid begins tomorrow.
Police in Bradford West are organising the operation, with support from Bradford Council.
It will build on the successful operation during Eid in June, which targeted dangerous driving in the Bradford West area.
Eid al-Adha lasts from Tuesday evening until Saturday evening, and marks Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his own son as a sign of obedience to God.
It is also called the Festival of Sacrifice, and is considered the holiest Islamic holiday of the year.
Council wardens will be on patrol and any illegal parking will be given a fixed penalty notice.
Chief Inspector Marc Adams said: “Following the positive feedback from residents and councillors, we have decided to continue our focus on dangerous driving.
“By doing so we hope that residents are able to celebrate Eid in a safe environment.
“Anyone who drives at excessive speeds, use a mobile device whilst driving, drives in an anti-social, careless or dangerous manner is likely to face fines, penalty points and risk having their vehicle seized.
“We have to do all we can to reduce the number of road collisions and casualties.”
Councillor Abdul Jabar, executive member for neighbourhoods and community safety, added: "I support the police's determined efforts to tackle dangerous driving which is a real menace.
"It is so important that drivers take in the message that speeding, or anything that distracts their attention or slows down their reactions can result in a life or death situation and they are putting other people's lives at risk as well as their own.”
