The Telegraph & Argus celebrates its 150th anniversary this year and in honour of the occasion we are printing a story from our archives every day for 150 days.
Today we look at the Telegraph & Argus Saturday, May 30, 1970: On February 10, 1968, Bradford Park Avenue had their last away win as members of the Football League. Two years and three months later, the Football League had decided it could without Bradford, who had finished bottom for the third season on the trot, replacing them with non-League club Cambridge United.
In those days there was no automatic promotion and relegation in and out of the league, it was a matter for a vote by other clubs. The news had come as a dreadful blow to Bradford as the club had been playing at Park Avenue for 63 years.
Holding a meeting, Bradford directors, said they needed time to consider the club’s future. But revolutionary ideas and bottomless pockets were not enough to save the club and in May 1970 they were out of the league.
