TWO Bradford men have said they are overwhelmed after having raised more than £80,000 through the sale of chocolate fudge cakes and strawberry gateaux through the month of Ramadan.
Abdul Satar and Amjad Akram have been organising Cakes4Blind for the past six years.
All the profits from the sale of the cakes are donated to AKAB School for the Blind and orphanage, in Mirpur, Pakistan, which Mr Satar visited last year after raising £53,000 during Ramadan in 2017.
"It was wonderful to raise so an overwhelming amount of money through the sale of the cakes and donations," said Mr Satar, who runs The Office Furniture Company.
"We had so many helpers this time helping to deliver the cakes as far away as Manchester and Middlesbrough. We would not have achieved it without them.
"We pay for all the leaflets, t-shirts and fuel out of our own money so that all the profits can go towards the charity.
"We want to thank everyone who purchased the cakes from us and donated to the charity and we also want to thank Regal Foods, from Bradford, for donating 3,000 litre bottles of mango juice which were given out with the cakes," he added.
A cheque for the total amount raised was handed to the principal of AKAB School Mohammad Ilyas Ayoub, who is also blind, and who had come over from Mirpur specially to celebrate the successful campaign.
