Telegraph & Argus, Tuesday, June 13, 1961:
“For she’s a jolly good swimmer,” sang the men and women employees of a Bradford shirt-making firm when their colleague, Dorothy Perkins, conqueror of the English Channel went back to work. Presented with a bouquet and a gold locket 19-year-old Dorothy and her parents Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Perkins, of Crossley Street, Great Horton, were given the full welcome back treatment which included flags and banners. That was not however the only reception she had received, as well as a memorable meet and greet with the Lord Mayor, Miss Perkins had been presented with a photo album containing pictures taken by Telegraph & Argus photographer Dennis Flatt of her momentous channel crossing.
