Telegraph & Argus Thursday, June 6, 1968:
SENATOR Robert Francis Kennedy had died at 1.44 am, June 6, 1968, after been shot in the head and neck by an assailant in a Los Angeles hotel minutes after his victory in the California primary election. Working on the 42-year-old New York Senator a team of surgeons had carried out a three-hour operation to remove all bullet particles from his brain. Even if the surgery had been successful and the Senator had lived, there were no positive signs that all his facilities wouldn't have been seriously impaired. Senator Kennedy was to be buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, where his brother, the late President Kennedy, was also laid to rest following his assassination in 1963.
