Telegraph & Argus Tuesday May 6, 1986:
Joe Johnson, the 150-1 outsider from Bradford Moor had become world snooker champion after beating Steve Davis in an 18-12 victory. Celebrating his win, the former gas fitter paid a visit to the Grosvenor Hotel to partake in his first drink in three weeks, champagne. Continuing the celebrations, he then moved on to the Morley Snooker Centre where he laid on another show, by singing with his pop group Made In Japan. With his £70,000 win, the next stage for Joe was a possible star-studded Far Eastern tour organised by snooker impresario Barry Hearn.
