Halifax Town's bid for a rare opening day success were dashed two minutes from time at the Wessex Stadium as they lost 2-1 to Weymouth.
Having lost each of their previous three season openers - all away from home - Town looked to be heading for a point after Tom Kearney had cancelled out a Jason Coutts effort.
But Anton Robinson's 88th-minute strike proved decisive, ensuring Chris Wilder's side returned home empty-handed once again.
Both sides had chances in a goalless first half, Town's best falling early on to Andy Campbell, who was denied at point-blank range by home keeper Jason Matthews.
At the other end, Justin Roberts somehow fired over from six yards following a free-kick.
The deadlock was finally broken 11 minutes into the second half following a break from former Watford midfielder Paulo Vernazza.
He picked out Coutts in the middle and the midfielder fired home from the edge of the area, giving Craig Mawson no chance.
Central defender Cortez Belle, on his debut, headed at the keeper as Town looked for an equaliser which came in the 75th minute when former City man Kearney fired home from a half-cleared Steve Torpey corner.
The game looked to be heading for a draw until the 88th minute when the home side struck the decisive blow.
Jefferson Louis opened up the Halifax defence with a neat turn and Robinson supplied the finish.
