THE sixth-form at a major Bradford secondary school is to close, after Council bosses signed off on a plan to expand its under-16s provision instead.
Carlton Bolling College in Undercliffe is to become a school for 11 to 16 year-olds only, and will take in an extra 60 pupils a year.
A recent Council review of post-16 education found that the district would be better served by the creation of a small number of large sixth-form colleges and a reduction in the number of small, school-based, sixth forms.
Councillor Imran Khan (pictured), Bradford Council’s executive member for education, said Carlton Bolling was an outstanding school and many parents wanted to send their children there.
He asked when the extra 60 places would become available.
Officers said the school would need to see how many pupils it could take in as it phased out its sixth-form so existing students could complete their studies.
