A Bradford bar that was the scene of a shooting last month could be closed down permanently because police fear further crimes would take place there.

The West End Bar in Lumb Lane, Manningham, was closed by police for the weekend after a man was shot at the venue at about 5am on Saturday, July 7.

Police believe the 24-year-old inured in the incident was deliberately targeted by the gunman. He was treated at Bradford Royal Infirmary for minor wounds.

Three men and a woman were arrested, then released on bail pending further inquiries over the matter.

The closure order was extended by Bradford Magistrates' Court until Bradford Council, the licensing authority, could review the bar's licence - which will take place next Monday.

Police are calling for the licence to be revoked and the venue closed down permanently. Their evidence suggests the incident took place outside the hours the club should be open - which is until 3am.

The police licensing officer John Tyson, states in a report to the Bradford, Keighley and Shipley Licensing Panel, that the police were called at 5.02am.

"It was ascertained a male victim has allegedly been shot and seriously injured while on the premises a short time before, but prior to the arrival of the police he had been taken away in a taxi by his girlfriend and it was some time before he was located some distance away and he was eventually taken to hospital for treatment.

"A police inquiry into the incident is continuing. Christine Pryce - the licence holder - is at the present time part of that inquiry. All parties are being uncooperative, forensic evidence is awaited together with dissemination of the CCTV system and it will be sometime before that inquiry is finalised."

This was not the first life-threatening incident at the venue. In October 2005 a 37-year-old man was stabbed and suffered serious head injuries in an attack.

The Council has also received numerous complaints about noise at the bar and has written to Miss Pryce three times over the situation.

Members of the licensing panel will make a decision on Monday as to whether the bar can reopen.
