A couple who met when they were both teachers in Otley are celebrating 60 years of married life.
Edward and Myrle Brear were both teaching PE at the old Secondary Modern school on North Parade when they first met.
Mrs Brear had been teaching PE to girls at the school for some time when her husband-to-be joined to take the boys in the same subject after leaving the RAF at the end of the Second World War.
The couple, who liked each other instantly, were married in Bramhope in 1947 and have lived in Otley ever since.
Mr Brear, went on to become headmaster of Lofthouse School, Nidderdale, and his wife taught in Ilkley and Otley.
The couple are marking a second family milestone, with their son David and his wife Paula celebrating their 30th anniversary this year.
Mr Brear, 86, is a member of Otley Forum and Burley Probus. Mrs Brear, 83, still works for RNLI.
Mr Brear said give and take seemed to sum up the secret of a happy marriage.
He said: "I love my wife like anything.
"Eight years ago I had a very serious operation, and over that year, in bits and pieces, I was in hospital for 65 days.
"Every one of those days she came to see me."
