Some of the world's best orchestras have been lined up for the 142nd Bradford International Orchestral Season and the 20th international Bradford Chamber Season.

The Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, Julian Lloyd Webber and the Bradford Festival Choral Society are among the performers.

The programme of 16 orchestral and chamber concerts begins and ends with the resident Hallé Orchestra. The first is on Friday, September 21, playing Rachmaninov's Symphony No 2, and the final concert is in May with the Hallé's performance of Shostakovich's Symphony No 1 - a celebration of the orchestra's 150th season.

The Warsaw Philharmonic, one of Europe's oldest and most distinguished orchestras makes a rare visit to Bradford, with a concert in March.

The programme includes Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony and Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture. This concert also sees the Bradford debut of multi-prize winning violinist Kuba Jackowicz performing Dvorak's Violin Concerto.

The Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra of Moscow Radio will be playing Rimsky Korsakov's Scheherazade in October and the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Orchestra will perform Rachmaninov's first piano concerto in November.

Julian Lloyd Webber joins the European Union Orchestra in February to perform Haydn's Cello Concerto.

The orchestral concerts take place at St George's Hall while the seven chamber concerts, which begin on September 28 and end on May 2, all take place at Bradford Cathedral.

Adam Renton, the general manager of Bradford Theatres, said: "We are delighted that one of the longest-running orchestral seasons in the country belongs to the city of Bradford; we are currently in our 142nd season and once again we bring the very best of British and international orchestras to St George's Concert Hall in the heart of Bradford.

"We have a varied and exciting programme this year, and we are sure there is something to suit everyone. We wouldn't exist without the loyal support of our subscribers and patrons, for which we are extremely grateful. But if you haven't been to one of these concerts before, we urge you to come along and see what you're missing."
