Women's health workers at Bradford Royal Infirmary have developed a DVD for patients due to undergo a planned caesarean section.
The DVD is given to women when they attend a pre-assessment clinic a week before surgery and it contains advice on how to cope immediately after surgery, such as how to get in and out of bed with stitches.
There is also advice for the early weeks after surgery, for example returning to driving, back care and postnatal exercise.
Pauline Bibby, physiotherapist, said: "The DVD is a good way to deliver information because it allows women to receive advice in the comfort of their own home and also allows them to watch it over again if necessary."
The DVD is currently being audited for patient satisfaction.
