A Bradford woman has been selected to show off her culinary skills in a new BBC Series hosted by celebrity chef James Martin.

Gita Mistry, a former Bradford Council employee turned university graduate, of Clayton Heights, is one of 30 amateur cooks selected from thousands of applicants around the country to take part in Eating with the Enemy.

The show is described as "an exciting new BBC Daytime TV series, in which Britain's bravest home cooks, with no professional experience, compete to impress four of the country's toughest and most feared food critics".

The contestants must try to convince the judges that their cooking can hold its own against restaurant food.

The series will play out as a regional competition which will run five days a week for a month, culminating in a national final.

Each week will feature a different region, with two different home cooks battling it out daily, for a place on Friday's regional semi-final.

The programme's presenter, top TV chef James Martin, mentored and monitored the amateur cooks both at the cook-offs and at their homes. Part of the programme involved working in a professional kitchen, an experience most people would find daunting.

Miss Mistry said: "It has been a fantastic experience.

"A friend of mine put me forward for the competition as I have always loved cooking. I've travelled all over the world and am always bringing back ingredients. I like to cook from scratch without using a recipe.

"James Martin is an excellent cook, the king of desserts, and he really helped us. I like to make infusions of all sorts of flavours. When he came to the house he kept saying what are you putting in now?'"
