Building company Skipton Properties has been refused permission to build on land to the eastern end of Riparian Way, Cross Hills.

The majority of members on Craven District Council's planning committee voted against the scheme.

Planners said no details had been given of future use of the proposed 4,092 square metre building on land.

The land had been approved for industrial use in August 2005, when former Skipton firm Kingsley Cards was granted permission through exceptional circumstances.

The card company's lease on Belle Vue Mill was coming to a close and the firm had exhausted all other possible locations.

However, the latest application was deemed not to fall into the special circumstances category and planners said it was against Local Plan policy and was premature pending the preparation of the Local Development Framework.
