A division of West Yorkshire Police changed its name today - but police assured the public it will not affect services.

Pudsey Weetwood Division has become North West Leeds Division to bring it into line with its neighbours in Leeds and Bradford.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said the new name better reflects the location of the communities it serves.

The change will not affect the division's police stations at Pudsey, Weetwood, and Otley.

Officers and staff from the division said they will continue to safeguard the public and work closely with the community.

Chief Inspector Keith Gilert, who is part of the Division's Senior Management Team, said: "After consulting with many partners and our own staff, we decided that we should change the division's name to better describe the area that we serve.

"I can assure members of the public and all our partners that all the services we provide will still be available, and that we are actually constantly seeking new ways to improve the way in which we deliver those services."

North West Leeds Division includes four Neighbourhood Policing Teams (NPTs). Further details about the NPTs are available at www.westyorkshire.police.uk/npt or by contacting your local NPT.
