The daughter of Andrea Dunbar, who recently called for a permanent memorial to her playwright mother, has died.

Lisa Pearce was the youngest daughter of Andrea, whose play, Rita, Sue and Bob Too was made into a film in 1987.

Last autumn Lisa attended a performance of Andrea's final play, Shirley, at the Square Chapel Arts Centre in Halifax. Joining the cast for a question-and-answer session, Lisa announced to the audience that she had terminal cancer. She said her wish was to see a memorial to Andrea, who died in 1989 of a brain haemorrhage, aged 29. In 2010 a blue plaque was unveiled at mother-of-three Andrea's former home on Brafferton Arbor, Buttershaw, but Lisa wanted a more prominent memorial in the city.

Andrea, who grew up on Buttershaw estate, wrote her first play, The Arbor, aged 15. Written for a school project, it was followed by Rita, Sue and Bob Too which was performed at the Royal Court Theatre in London.

The film of Rita, Sue and Bob Too was largely shot in Buttershaw. Last year was the 30th anniversary of its release and a series of events paying tribute to Andrea Dunbar's work included a discussion at Bradford Literature Festival led by actor George Costigan, who starred in Rita, Sue and Bob Too.

George said: "I hope the city sees fit to honour Lisa's mother in the manner Lisa campaigned so hard for."

An interview with Lisa appeared in 2010 film The Arbor, combining recorded words of some of of Andrea's family and friends with scenes from her plays and documentary footage.

Bradford actress Natalie Gavin, who starred in the award-winning film, and the recent production of Shirley at the Square Chapel Arts Centre, said: "Lisa was a force of nature and will be sadly missed by all that knew her."
