A PRIMARY school in one of the most deprived areas of Bradford has been ranked as one of the best in the UK.
Horton Park Primary School, in the Canterbury area, was named in the top 40 state primary schools in the country and the second highest in the Yorkshire region.
The ranking, 39th in the UK, was based on performance in the Key Stage 2 test results sat by pupils at the end of their primary school education this summer, and was revealed in the Sunday Times primary school guide.
Earlier this year Horton Park won a Telegraph & Argus Schools Awards in the Achievement category for its impressive results.
Head teacher Salma Rahman said: “We are incredibly pleased with our achievements and for being recognised as one of the top performing state primary schools in England. Horton Park Primary, an Exceed Academies Trust school, is a place where all our children flourish, aim high and are supported intensively in reaching their full potential.
“The children of Horton Park enjoy coming to school, learn exceptionally well through creative and innovative opportunities and are extremely proud of their achievements. Our outcomes reflect the sheer determination, collaboration and hard work of all our children, staff, governors and parents.”
Ilkley Grammar, has also netted a top achievement - it was named as the best comprehensive school in the region in the latest Sunday Times Parent Power guide.
It is also ranked as the fourth best secondary school in Yorkshire, ranking higher than several of the region’s selective grammar schools, based on the exam performance of its pupils.
Head teacher Helen Williams said: “I am extremely proud of this latest achievement for Ilkley Grammar School. As always, this honour has come as the result of the tremendous hard work and effort of all of our students and staff over the last two years in particular, and it is an accomplishment that our school community will celebrate and relish together.”
Councillor Imran Khan, Bradford Council’s executive member for education, said: “These are wonderful success stories for our district. My congratulations go to both Ilkley Grammar and Horton Park Primary.
"These results do not come without hard work and the commitment of everyone involved. It is great to see what the district’s schools are achieving.”
