DO you know someone in your community who is a dedicated volunteer or goes our of their way to help others on a regular basis?

Now is your chance to nominate your unsung heroes in the seventh annual Community Stars Awards.

The honours are organised by the Telegraph & Argus and Bradford Council in a bid to ensure those striving to make a difference in their local communities are properly recognised.

Make your nomination HERE

Our readers are being asked to nominate people in their neighbourhoods whom they feel have gone out of their way to help others.

A panel of judges will then have the difficult task of sifting through all the nominations and whittling them down to a shortlist of nominees across the now eight categories.

It will then be over to Bradfordians to vote for the winners, who will be unveiled at a ceremony to be held at the Midland Hotel, on Wednesday, December 6, where each category winner will be honoured with the Bradford Medal.

The Community Stars Awards are part of the People Can Make a Difference campaign which aims to recognise the voluntary work already being carried out in the district. It encourages people to make a difference in a number of ways, such as being neighbourly, through community action or volunteering, as well as raising money for local projects.

The awards are also sponsored by Better Start Bradford which runs schemes in the Bowling, Barkerend, Bradford Moor and Little Horton areas of the city, aiming to give babies and children in those areas a better start in life.

This time we are also looking for Bradford’s unsung businesses, large and small, who go above and beyond to make a real difference to the people of the district. This could be firms that raise funds, recycle or share their resources. It could be giving unsold food to a food kitchen for the homeless, letting charities use meeting or boardrooms, sponsorship or grant-giving, or staff giving up their time through corporate volunteering.

Councillor Abdul Jabar, Bradford Council’s executive member for Neighbourhoods and Community Safety, said: “We are delighted to be working once again with the Telegraph & Argus in recognising the good work carried out right across the district by volunteers. We have such a strong community here in Bradford with people always ready to step forward and help others.”

The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Abid Hussain, added: “These awards are such a great part of the People Can Make a Difference campaign. I would urge people to nominate someone who they believe has made a real difference to people’s lives in their community so their efforts can be fully appreciated.”

Nominations are being sought in the following categories: Community Group, Fundraiser, Young Active Citizens, Good Neighbour, Volunteer, Community Champion, Business Can Make a Difference Award, and the sponsored award Better Start Bradford Outstanding Contribution to Volunteering.

Nominations need to be submitted before Monday, September 25.
