A COUNCIL-OWNED library building has sold for £81,000 over its guide price.
The Haworth Road library, a single-storey detached building in Upper Heaton, was bought by an unnamed bidder for £181,000 at auction.
The library was one of 13 libraries Bradford Council wanted to turn into volunteer-run libraries from April to save cash.
But although staff were removed, no volunteer-run service has yet opened in the area. A Council spokesman said it would “continue to look at alternative locations and to work with the local community” to try to reopen a replacement volunteer-run service.
Ward councillors have said there is a plan to open a volunteer-run library in nearby St Martin’s Church, also in Haworth Road.
