A CROSS Hills chemical company has inspired young scientists of the future.
A survey amongst Sutton Community Primary School pupils following a visit to Airedale Chemical found that nearly all of them were more interested in science as a result.
Seventy-one per cent said the subject was now their favourite at school.
And 65 per cent said they wanted to work in a science-related career when they were older.
Year-four pupils enjoyed a day of experiments at the Airedale Chemical site and were given an insight into working in the industry.
Teacher David Horton said: "It is so encouraging to see the children embracing the sciences in this way.
"It is easy to opt for subjects like art, design and physical education, but it's great to be able to boost the pupils' interest in STEM subjects like science and chemistry, which can be equally creative, fun and rewarding."
Airedale Chemical's head of marketing, Daniel Marr, said the firm was overwhelmed by the positive feedback from the survey.
"The whole aim of the partnership is to share the knowledge and expertise we have within the company and to spark a greater interest in science and STEM amongst future generations of possible scientists," he added.
"One hundred per cent of the pupils said they were keen to take part in future visits to the site so this is the most fantastic result we could have hoped for."
The firm already has plans in place for future educational visits and events as part of its Airedale Foundation and community activities.
