A MAN involved in drug dealing on the streets of Shipley has been jailed for 27 months.
Paul Bennett, 46, of Wyther Park Avenue, Leeds, pleaded guilty to two charges of possessing class A drugs - heroin and crack cocaine - with intent to supply, on March 16 this year.
Bradford Crown Court heard that Bennett had been addicted to drugs for many years, had turned his life around, but went back on drugs after losing his job as a warehouseman and had then built up a drugs debt.
Police saw drugs transactions taking place in Shipley and followed a Volkswagen Bora into Well Croft, where the officers pounced as another transaction was about to take place. Bennett was the passenger, who was driven to a location to hand out the drugs.
The court heard Bennett threw a bag from the car window, containing wraps of heroin and crack cocaine with a street value of £900.
Jailing him, Judge Jonathan Durham Hall said: "Street dealing is a cancer in this and other cities and the supplying of drugs cannot be tolerated."
