SHADOW minister for women and equalities, Sarah Champion (pictured), will be visiting Saltaire on Saturday to set out what Labour would do for women’s rights.
Feminism has become a key issue in the constituency this General Election, with the Women’s Equality Party leader Sophie Walker standing against incumbent Tory and anti-political correctness campaigner Philip Davies.
Labour is keen to win over feminists who might otherwise vote for Ms Walker, and Ms Champion is expected to highlight the party’s pledges to help ‘Waspi women’ affected by changes to the state pension age, as well as plans to strengthen protections for women on maternity leave, among other measures.
The open meeting is at Victoria Hall, Saltaire, at 2.30pm but seating is limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
