Police are investigating claims a father might have been involved in damaging a post box just moments before he was fatally injured when he ran into the path of a lorry.

Investigations into the death of Frank Conway, 33, have revealed a post box was damaged by fire between houses in Midland Terrace and Canal Road, Bradford, in the minutes before he was hit by a recovery truck along Canal Road. Detectives are now investigating claims Mr Conway may have been involved in causing damage to the post box and that a dark coloured MK3 Ford Fiesta with blacked out windows and containing up to five men stopped and confronted Mr Conway and his friend about it.

It is then believed Mr Conway, of Bradford, was pursued into Canal Road where he was hit by the vehicle at about 1.45am on Friday, June 22.

Mr Conway suffered serious injuries and was taken to Leeds General Infirmary where he died.

Detective Inspector Trevor Gasson, of the Homicide and Major Inquiry team, said: "We are keen for the men who were in the Fiesta to come forward and tell us exactly what went on that night."

A 26-year-old man and a 17-year-old youth have been arrested in connection with the inquiry and granted bail pending further inquiries.
