FIREFIGHTERS tried to rescue a cat stuck in an underground drainage system at the Sunny Bank Mills site in Farsley last night.
Crews from Stanningley station attended at 9pm after being called by the RSPCA, but the animal managed to give them the slip.
A spokesman for West Yorkshire fire service said: "There is an underground drainage system there and the cat was by the entrance, which is a little drainage pool.
"One firefighter went into the drain to try and get the cat, but it disappeared back up another drain.
"We left a manhole cover open so it could get itself out later."
Fire crews believed it was a "wild" cat, rather than a pet.
