Mums from seven schools in Bradford have been getting together to socialise and get fit at the same time.

The Mums and Tums classes, which have been running for the past four weeks, have proved so successful, they will be introduced permanently in September.

The mums are all from the Learning4Seven Extended Schools group, which includes Tong High School, Fearnville Primary School, Carrwood Primary School, St John's Church of England Primary School, St Columba's Roman Catholic Primary School, Ryecroft Primary School and Knowleswood Primary School.

The classes have been held every Monday and the mums have also received a fitness newsletter and advice on weight management, health, nutrition and fitness. A creche has been available for children under school age while the mums have been in the class.

Sandra Corcoran, Bradford Council's Extended Schools Project Manager, said: "These classes have proved a real opportunity for the mums to get together, get fit and have a bit of me time' while having fun.

"We received funding through Forward Ladies to run a four-week pilot and it has proved so successful, that we have included it in the Extended Schools Agenda for September."
