Bradford has been named as one of ten pilot areas where local people will be able to have a say in how their council spends its money.

Communities Secretary Hazel Blears is expected to outline the plan in her first major Commons speech later today.

The scheme will see communities being asked via debates, votes and public meetings exactly how they want Bradford Council to direct its spending.

Ms Blears said: "Democracy should be about much more than casting a vote every five years."
