High-visibility police patrols are being carried out across North Yorkshire in the wake of the intended terrorist attacks in London and Glasgow.
Chief Constable Grahame Maxwell said: "Our utmost priority is to keep our communities safe. To this end, the number of high-visibility police patrols has been increased in selected locations. This is a precautionary move which I trust will be reassuring for members of the public.
"Experience has shown that it is communities that defeat terrorism. We need every member of the public to be vigilant, to report suspicious activity and to co-operate with the police and the other agencies while this state of alert continues.
"I am very conscious of the importance of community relations and we will be working with all our community leaders, including our minority communities, to ensure that the people of North Yorkshire are safe and feel safe."
If anyone sees any suspicious behaviour or activity, they are urged to contact the police on 999. Information and observations can be passed to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, or to the Anti-terrorist Hotline on 0800 789321.
