A nine-year-old girl who was killed when a car in which she was a passenger careered out of control, has been named as Amnah Quifer.

Amnah was visiting relatives in Nelson, Lancashire, from Pakistan, and was travelling with her three cousins.

Their blue Toyota Avensis, heading towards Colne on the A6068 near Cowling, lost control round a left hand bend and collided with a Citroen travelling in the opposite direction and occupied by a family from Cross Hills, near Skipton.

A North Yorkshire police spokesman said the driver of the Avensis, 22-year-old Samina Riaz and her sister Aneeba Riaz, 20, were today comfortable in Airedale Genereal Hospital, Steeton.

Their 16-year-old sister Neeland was more seriously hurt but her injuries were not life threatening. She was also being treated in Airedale.

The two adults and a toddler in the Citroen were treated in hospital for minor injuries and two babies also in the car were unhurt.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash which happened at 9pm on Saturday on the Colne side of the junction with Park Lane, Cowling. They should telephone 01423 539726 or 0845 6060247.
