Two new teams had mixed fortunes as the Shelley Carroll Trophy Village Cup kicked off despite the inclement weather conditions.
All credit must go to the players and management, who all mucked in to get the games played.
Otley Road marked their first season in the competition by beating Ravenscliffe in Division A, with Mark Dempsey (2), Alex Stevenson, John Selby and Lee Binns on target.
Fellow new boys Wrose started off well but experienced opponents Beldon Sports bided their time and hit them for seven as John White backed up doubles from Dean Mortimer, Johnathan Hicks and Steve Jackson in a 7-2 outcome.
Meanwhile, East Ward showed their pedigree at Rawdon Meadows to inflict a 5-2 scoreline on IMS Celtic, with Sean Morley (2), Brian Carr, Adam Hill and Chris Raftery doing the damage.
In Division B, favourites Ventus Sports had to dig deep to earn a 4-4 draw against Smiling Mule, who had been 4-1 up.
Slack defending by Seven Stars allowed Yeadon Ventus to claim a 3-1 verdict.
And St George's, who are new to the competition, romped to a 13-1 win against Gateway Trinity.
