Distressing CCTV footage of a fatal road accident could be shown in court next month when a judge sentences a hit-and-run driver.

Ghaffar Ahmadi, 33, has admitted causing the death of 17-year-old pedestrian Stephen Cowens by dangerous driving, but because he has pleaded guilty on an agreed basis the footage of the collision in Manchester Road is expected to be shown in public to help put matters in context.

Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday that as yet the family of Mr Cowens had not requested to see the footage, but the Honorary Recorder of Bradford, Judge Stephen Gullick, said they now needed to be warned about the situation.

Judge Gullick, who intends to view the CCTV footage himself prior to the hearing on July 31, said the family would have to decided whether they wanted to leave court while the footage was shown.

Ahmadi, of Tichborne Road, West Bowling, also admitted failing to stop after the collision with Mr Cowens on March 8 and failing to stop after he collided with an Audi A4 on Senior Way and was driving without insurance.

Barrister Elyas Patel, for Ahmadi, conceded that any report compiled on his client would only address the length of his prison sentence.

Ahmadi was remanded back into custody to await his sentence.
