A retired training officer who suffered from long-term heart problems died after being taken into hospital following a fire in his home.

Donald Lawson, 65, had accidentally knocked over the electric heater which had caused a small blaze at his home at Croft House Close, Wibsey, back in January.

He was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary where he died a few days later of bronchopneumonia, today's inquest in Bradford was told.

Mr Lawson had also suffered from a number of medical problems and had been taking tablets to help him sleep.

Coroner Roger Whittaker was told that shortly before the fire he had taken too many tablets and the coroner said this had precipitated the illness which led to his death and recorded an accidental verdict.
