Every primary school child in the Bradford district will receive a School's Out summer guide next week.

Bradford Council has produced more than 80,000 copies of its 12-page colour guide full of summer activities to keep pupils entertained during their holidays.

The wide range of events includes activities in parks, museums and galleries, including abstract sculptures, exhibitions, music and rhyme sessions and the chance to learn some craft skills. A page is also dedicated to recycling with tips for youngsters so they can do their bit to help save the planet.

There is also a mass of sporting activities for youngsters to enjoy such as athletics, badminton, canoeing and kayaking, climbing, cricket, dance, gymnastics, and trampolining.

And this year one of its main characters was eight-year-old Abbey Lannen, from Thorpe Edge, who won a Bradford Council competition to become the cartoon face' of the brochure.

She sent in her details for the Council's illustrator James Hart to develop a character based on the information. She is now one of nine characters featured in the guide.
