The long awaited re-opening of Low Moor railway station will be the subject of the next Bradford Rail User's Group (BRUG) meeting.

The group is planning to stage a campaign to pressure Metro into re-opening the station.

In 2000, Metro identified five stations in West Yorkshire to be reopened.

At the moment, only one station, at Glasshoughton, has been built.

BRUG treasurer Alec Suchi said Metro is now planning to open stations at Apperley Bridge and Kirkstall, with building starting in 2010.

He said: "If you live between Bradford and Halifax it is very difficult to access any rail services.

"If the station at Low Moor was re-opened, park and ride facilities would encourage motorists to complete their journeys by train, reducing congestion and pollution.

"I believe it would definitely be in the interests of the Council also, as it would help the aims of its Local Transport Plan."

A progress report on Low Moor will be made at the meeting, on Thursday, July 5, at 7.30pm at the Bradford Voluntary Service Centre in Sunbridge Road.

As part of the campaign, the group plans to organise a public meeting in September to consult Low Moor residents.
