Tributes have been paid following the tragic death of a 35-year-old bride only three months after her dream wedding in Mauritius.

Dawn Smith was taken ill shortly after returning from her honeymoon in South Africa with husband, Ben.

Despite treatment, her condition worsened and she died at Leeds General Infirmary on Tuesday.

Dawn Smith, formerly Martin, was a former telesales manager at the Telegraph & Argus.

She was known to hundreds of business contacts in Ilkley and Otley since 2000 as the advertising manager of T&A sister weekly papers the Ilkley Gazette and the Wharfedale & Airedale Observer.

She was subsequently promoted to group weeklies advertising manager of Newsquest (Bradford) Ltd, publishers of the T&A, when she took on additional responsibility for the Keighley News and the Craven Herald & Pioneer, in Skipton.

Born Dawn Robinson in 1971, the youngest of five children, she was brought up in Marshfields, Bradford.

She joined the then Bradford & District Newspapers in 1994 to work in telesales, first on Yorkshire On Sunday and then on the T&A. From there she worked her way up the company in the classified entertainment section before becoming telesales manager and then moving to Ilkley.

At one time she was also a Special Constable.

Dawn and Ben lived in Northowram, Halifax, while they were refurbishing their new home in Lightcliffe.

Managing Director of Newsquest (Bradford) Ltd, Charlie Birrell and John Lee, Head of Advertising, issued a joint statement saying: "She was an exceptional individual with great talent and this is a devastating loss. Dawn made a tremendous contribution to our business.

"Our thoughts are now with her husband, Ben, her close family, colleagues and friends."

T&A editor Perry Austin-Clarke said: "Dawn was a great member of our newspaper family. She was full of energy, hard-working and totally committed. She had a great many friends across the company and to lose someone with her vitality and ability at such a young age is a real tragedy. We will all miss her greatly."

Mrs Smith leaves one brother and four sisters. Funeral arrangements are yet to be concluded.
